Thomas Dennerby appointed coach of Indian senior women’s football team
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Friday announced that Thomas Dennerby will take over as the head coach of the Indian women’s senior national team with immediate effect. Sweden’s 62-year-old Dennerby was earlier in charge of the Indian U-17 Women’s World Cup squad. He has been appointed coach of the national team to help prepare for the AFC Asian Cup. The tournament will be held in India from January 20 to February 6 next year 2022
Govt launches ‘Sonchiraiya’ brand for SHG products
The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched a single brand ‘Sonchiraiya’ to promote the products of Urban Self-Help Groups (SHGs). This information was given in an official statement. According to the statement, Secretary of the Ministry Durga Shankar Mishra said that empowering women financially and helping them to lead a dignified life is one of the priorities of the government.
More than 5.7 lakh SHGs have been formed in different states and union territories with 60 lakh members. Many of these SHGs are engaged in livelihood activities like production of handicrafts, clothes, toys, food items etc.

To overcome these challenges, the ministry has entered into Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with leading e-commerce portals like Amazon and Flipkart, with the main objective of women empowerment.
Ministry of Social Justice launches e-study platform “TAPAS”
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched an online portal called TAPAS (Training for Productivity and Services) to provide filmed lectures/courses and e-learning material in the field of social defence. Anyone can do this course and it is free.
Currently 5 courses under TAPAS:
- Prevention of drug (substance) abuse,
- Geriatrics/elderly care,
- Care and management of dementia,
- Transgender issues and
- A comprehensive course on Social Security issues.
The main objectives
The main objective of introducing the course modules is to provide training for capacity building of the participants and to enhance the knowledge and skills. It can be done by anyone who wants to increase their knowledge on the subjects and there is no fee to join.
